With deep expertise in capital markets, John has sat on the board of directors of several public companies and has extensive experience managing capital pool companies and lending entities.
John’s leadership combines strong financial acumen, proven transaction execution, and a track record of guiding companies through critical growth phases in the public markets. He is recognized for his ability to identify high-potential opportunities and deliver value for stakeholders through disciplined capital deployment and strategic oversight.
Brent Buhler
Brent is the Managing Director of Cambio Merchant Capital Corp., a position he has held since 2010. With over 16 years leading Cambio, he specializes in four core areas: shareholder transactions (including management buyouts and shareholder buyouts), mergers and acquisitions, growth capital financing, and complex commercial real estate financings. His career includes senior leadership roles as Interim President of Sugarlash PRO, Chief Executive Officer of Thunder Developments (Thunderchild First Nation), and Managing Director positions with Pyx Financial Group and Meridian Merchant Capital Canada. A disciplined and energetic finance executive, Brent brings extensive entrepreneurial experience and a proven ability to deliver creative, tailored financing solutions across diverse Canadian industries. Known for building strong relationships with clients and capital providers alike, he excels at structuring transactions that drive sustainable growth while aligning with client objectives. Brent holds business and marketing studies from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, along with advanced theological education.

Garrett Plester
Garrett serves as Vice President of Cambio Merchant Capital Corp., a position he has held since 2019. His career and academic foundation are centered on underwriting, structuring, and implementing sophisticated debt instruments to generate low-risk, stabilized investment income. Having studied business law, economics, and finance, Garrett possesses deep expertise in debt-heavy investment strategies, commercial and corporate credit risk, and proven techniques for risk mitigation. Prior to joining Cambio, Garrett held positions on several debt capital markets teams, spanning a Schedule I bank, an international commercial real estate brokerage, and an IIROC-certified investment dealer. At Cambio, Garrett focuses on executing the firm’s core mandates—including shareholder transactions (MBOs/SBOs), mergers and acquisitions, growth capital, and complex commercial real estate financings—while working closely with clients to develop customized financial models, feasibility studies, and tailored debt structures that precisely meet their operational needs. He also brings board-level experience from Django FX Consulting in currency hedging and foreign exchange strategies.
